As a Tatzlpony, Lyjzet has a lower jaw that can split in half to make room to accomidate larger prey. Rather than gums, sharp pointed teeth line the insides of his lips to grasp things. He has a set of three tentacle like tongues that are prehensile and can coil and wrap around a prey.
The stomach is like any other and digests things, but tatzlpony saliva reacts with living creatures and provides a protective coating that lasts about 12 hours, protecting them. This can be negated by preventing contact, like through food play, or special potions. In the mean time, food around the prey will digest normally. Once that time is up, it will procede to treat them like any other food.
Everything else proceeds as normal, through the small intestine, the large intestine, and then out.

As a tatzlpony, one of the ways that they explore the world is with picking up things with their slippery tentacles, examining them, and sometimes swallowing them up to their belly. This is also a way that they show affection with those they like, keeping them nestled close. The saliva is such that it keeps prey safe for up to half a day with a single coating unless something neutralizes that. So its perfectly safe.
Occasionally the tatzl may get so drunk or lost in it that after a nap or such, the protection has already worn off of the prey is fored into the position of actually being food.
Of course Lyjzet sometimes takes part in a forbidden pleasure of digesting live prey, a thing that he's taken up more often since the concept was interoduced by his friend Zuthal. To this end he needs to either cover his prey in a way that saliva wont touch their skin, such as with a sauce, or take a special potion that speeds things along. Or just wait for the protections to wear off.
Still, he also often allows himself to be eaten, knowing that he can use his tentacles to keep himself safe for long durations, coating himself with his own protective drool. Being tucked away reminds him of him.
