Aerie isn't much of a predator herself, preferring instead to feed things to her birds. She's been known to shrink down ponies and other critters and watch them vanish down the beaks of her little playmates.
Of course, training like this could backfire on her, and she might one day end up shrunken and then take a very similar trip.
Also being an earth pony, she has no great natural defenses against predators such as gryphons.
